Hello
After some deliberation and mental gymnastics, I have decided to hop on the Substack train.
It has unwaveringly brought me joy to stay up to date with friends through more creative and intimate forms of social media; whether it be a fleeting moment on BeReal or a fully formed post on Substack. I love that this exists, and my endless thanks go out to those near me who have brought on the introduction.
Over the past 5 years or so I have slowly but surely fallen out of the habit of writing for the sake of itself. When I was a kid I used to write pretty consistently; mostly melodramatic poetry or knock-off Stephen King short stories. I am hoping joining Substack will help me to flex the muscle again, and push myself to come out of my cave a little bit. The permanence of the internet tends to frighten me out of sharing things, but maybe it doesn’t have to big this big//scary//overwhelming thing? Maybe it can be ~fun~.
Free Range is on tour with the Backseat Lovers right now, about to hit the halfway point. Everyone in the band (Josh, Jonas, KJ, and Juice) as well as their crew are some of the sweetest folks, and I feel endlessly grateful to be playing these shows with them. The same can be said for our little van crew as well; my heart is full. Watching their sets each night has been blowing all of us away; learning something new every day and eager for what else is to come. Next show is in Orlando, FL… Feeling ready to swim in some humid//drippy air.
Good omen from the beginning of tour:
I’ve been looking for a “The Mountain” shirt for maybe a decade. Found on day 1 at “The World’s Largest Truck Stop” in Iowa. Photo featuring my driving Red Bull, my slippers that I just had to glue back together, and Jack’s .5 photography skills.
A collection of signs at the same truck stop that made me laugh:
Sweet photo of Sofia the other night in Dallas with a new friend:
We have seen a surprisingly large number of moths in the past few days.
The next few weeks:
- Orlando, FL: 5.22
- St. Petersburg, FL: 5.23
(Hoping to swim somewhere in here)
- Nashville, TN: 5.25
- Home! 5.26
Then Friko is heading to WI to play a sweet college show on 5.28, I am hopping in with Waltzer at Lincoln Hall 6.2 (I am a lucky duck), and morinda is playing with Options and Theadoore 6.5 at Schubas. Much to look forward to…
~side note: Our new friend Claire, who has been running merch for us and helping with driving//just generally being wonderful, just put on Hide and Seek by Imogen Heap in the van (5.20 3:47pm). That’s all~
Thank you for reading.
